PTA News

Wood Oaks PTA 10/22/21 Update:

Presidents’ Corner:

As part of our partnership with the school, the office staff and teachers have kindly asked that all parents make sure your children have an EXTRA mask in their backpack for each school day.  Health and safety are paramount in our school community.

PTA Hot Lunch

Wood Oaks expanded its program to 2 days a week - Mondays and Thursdays.

Here are a few points to remember:

  • The ordering window opened for all the schools on October 20th.

  • Credit Card payments only

  • Last day to order for the next week is the prior Friday at 8 am.

  • Hot Lunch resumes for Wood Oaks on November 1st.

  • Menu items have been streamlined due to some items having a greater possibility of spilling.

  • For Wood Oaks – it is important to have the correct lunch periods for Monday & Thursday otherwise meals will either not be there or cold.

The Hot Lunch program is fluid and can change month to month.  We are all hoping that as the year goes on and vaccines get approved for children ages 5-11, the distance recommendations during lunch will change so we can have children sit closer than 6 feet apart.  This will make serving hot lunch at all schools easier and give the PTA the opportunity to expand to more days.

Please remember that the Hot Lunch program is a fundraiser for each PTA.

Thank you for your patience as we have worked together to bring hot lunch back to our families.

CATCH

CATCH, Community Action Together for Children's Health, is pleased to announce a new community event to take place on November 15, 2021.  The event is designed for teenagers and those who love them (7th grade and up).

We will welcome Mark Potter  (https://www.d2up.org/) to our community virtually.  Coach Potter is a former D2 basketball coach who now speaks about his mental health journey and the importance of reaching out for help when you are hurting or struggling.  Mark is a warm, approachable guy and his message is down-to-earth but very powerful.

We are thrilled to host Coach Potter and to have the support of school Districts 27,28,30,31,34 and 225.

We encourage you to attend this presentation with your teens.  Mental health matters and removing the stigma and reaching out for help is critically important for our teens overall emotional well-being.

PTA Ice Skating is BACK!

Mark your calendars for Friday, November 12th at the Glenview Ice Rink!

There is no school due to a Professional Development Day. Details to be announced!  This event has been a long standing tradition at Wood Oaks, and was on hiatus due to the pandemic.  Your WO PTA pays for skate rental and ice time for your 6-8th grade children! Masks required.

Staff Appreciation

Thanks to Erin Machat for all the hard work she has done to provide tasty treats for our teachers and staff!  If you see her, be sure to say, “Thanks!”.  Look for pictures in next week’s bog of all her amazing efforts during the month of October!  You will wish you worked at WO!

Give the Gift of Warmth

It's our annual District 27 Coat Drive!  October 22nd to November 2nd we will be collecting new and gently used children's coats size 0-18 to donate to a neighboring community in need.  Collection bins will be located inside Vestibule A at all three schools - open during school hours only.  Let’s all come together and clean out our closets to fill these bins and give the gift of warmth!
