Wood Oaks Newsletter: Winter Break

Winter Break

Today is our last day of school before the start of the two-week hiatus. Thank you to all the families who shared gifts for staff and thank you to the Wood Oaks PTA for supporting our teachers with a delicious lunch today. We wish everyone a happy and peaceful winter break. All District 27 schools will be closed during the break, and school will resume on Monday, January 6, 2025. 

Wednesday, January 8, No After School Activities

Due to an all-staff training, all after-school activities are canceled for Wednesday, January 8. The Wood Oaks activity buses will not be available and our office will be closed at 4:00 p.m.

PreACT 8/9 Scores & D225 Course Placements 

Parents of 8th-grade students should watch their USPS mail for PreACT 8/9 results after winter break. We will be mailing score reports home on January 9. District 225 will still be emailing parents the course placements on January 17 after school hours. Please also remember to attend the Incoming Freshman Curriculum Night at GBN on January 16 at 6:30 p.m.

GBN Winter Art Showcase Art

Wood Oaks is very proud of our artists who participated in the Glenbrook North Winter Art Showcase. Those participants were 8th graders Kaila F., Annabelle Y, Georgia Z., and Scarlett B. Scarlett’s submission in the drawing category was recognized as Best Art in the category for junior high. Their artwork will be on display in the GBN Library through January 10th. Georgia Z is also our highlighted artist in the Wood Oaks office. Please take a look at her work if you are in the Wood Oaks Office.

Glenbrook North High School Broadcasting Clinic - an opportunity for 8th-grade students! 

The Glenbrook North High School Broadcasting Department is hosting a FREE hands-on media clinic for 8th graders on Thursday, January 9 from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM. This workshop is for students who are interested in TV, Radio, Podcasting, News, Sports, & Filmmaking. The event will run from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM in the Glenbrook North High School Broadcasting Room (Room A116). 

To ensure a spot please register as soon as possible as we can only accommodate the first 75 students who sign up. The camp is for 8th graders at NBJH, Maple, Field, Wood Oaks & Private School students who will be attending GBN next year. The clinic will be led by current GBN Broadcast students and instructors. Registration is available through January 7 at gbnbroadcasting.com

Glenbrook D225 Webinar Series

For parents of current GBN students, the webinar series will have another installment on Monday, January 6. This webinar is titled Navigating Course Requests. It will help current freshman, sophomores, and juniors utilize the course planner to plan for the 25-26 school year. A similar session will be on January 21 for the incoming freshman (current 8th graders).
