WO Newsletter 5.20.22

Welcome to the Wood Oaks Newsletter. This is my primary means of disseminating information to families, so please check back often. I generally update this page once a week, usually on Fridays, but will occasionally put out a mid-week issue if there is information to share that cannot wait for the weekend. To subscribe to this newsletter, click on the orange bell below, click on the newsletter, and fill out the pop-up form.

Graduation (Only Posting)

This coming Thursday at 6 pm, Wood Oaks 8th graders will graduate from District 27. The ceremony will be held at the Glenbrook North HS Center for Performing Arts.  Congratulations to all of our graduates and their families. Thursday will also be the last day of school for our 8th grade students.

D27 Schools Closed (First Posting)

All District 27 schools will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.  Schools will reopen under normal school hours on Tuesday, May 31. That will also be Field Day for our 6th and 7th grade students.

Last Day of School (First Posting)

The last day of school for our 6th and 7th graders will be on June 1. The school hours on that day will be adjusted to accommodate bus transportation. School will begin at 8 am on June 1, and students will be dismissed at 11 am.  Regular bus transportation will be available.

Wood Oaks Office for Summer (First Posting)

The Wood Oaks main office will be undergoing renovations this summer, starting on June 2.  Any business families have with Wood Oaks should be directed to the District Office entrance located on the northwest side of the building.

Water Bottles (Second Posting)

The early forecast for next week is not nearly as warm as it has been this week, but as we all know… in Chicago, weather can change quickly.  We learned this week that many Wildcat students do not bring a water bottle to school with them each day. Given the hot conditions during PE and recess, many students were not getting enough water.  Please ensure your student brings a water bottle to school with them every day. We have plenty of bottle filling stations available to them, but they need the bottle to fill. Thank you.

2022-23 School Bus Registration (Final Posting)

Registration for bus service for the 2022-2023 school year will open on Tuesday, May 10. Please complete the online registration information on or after May 10, and contact the District 27 business office (khoder.s@nb27.org) should you have any questions.

Google Apps over the Summer (Third Posting)

For reasons related to the pandemic, Google account access for students was left on over the summer in 2020 and 2021. This year, student Google access will be turned off for the summer. This was the practice pre-pandemic. Student Google accounts will not be accessible starting at midnight on June 2nd. Accounts will be turned back on for the first day of school in August. Students participating in the Summer Success Program will have their accounts reactivated for those sessions.

Use of Side Streets Around Wood Oaks for Pickup (Final Posting)

I have received some communications recently from individuals who live in the neighborhoods surrounding Wood Oaks.  They are reporting that the volume of traffic in those neighborhoods is increasing and many of those cars are not exhibiting careful driving practices, especially when students are present. Please make use of the Wood Oaks driveway to pick up your children after school as that is the safest way to get them home. While there are more cars on colder or rainy days, if you want to avoid the carpool line you should just arrive on campus at 3:40 and you will drive right up to the sidewalk without having to wait in the line.
