Principal's Newsletter

Welcome to the Wood Oaks Newsletter.  This is my primary means of disseminating information to families, so please check back often.  I generally update this page once a week, usually on Fridays, but will occasionally put out a mid-week issue if there is information to share that cannot wait for the weekend.  To subscribe to this newsletter, click on the orange bell below, click on the newsletter, and fill out the pop-up form.

Wood Oaks Chamber Strings (Only Posting)

The Wood Oaks Chamber Strings group, under the direction of Mr. Lograsso, will be performing holiday music at Northbrook Court from 5:00 – 6:30 pm on Friday, December 14.  They will be set up in the courtyard area near Lord & Taylor.  Please come out and take in the wonderful music these students have been working on for several weeks.

PTA Meeting (Only Posting)

The Wood Oaks PTA meeting scheduled for Monday morning has been canceled.  The next scheduled meeting will be on Monday, January 14 at 9:15 am.

Hot Lunch Ordering (Second Posting)

Hot lunch ordering for the second semester opens on December 1.  Please be sure to make any adjustments that need to be made to your child’s lunch schedule in that system.  Second semester begins on January 22, 2019.  Most students do not have the same lunch periods in second semester that they did during first semester.  You can see which periods your student has lunch each day in the second semester by clicking the “schedule” tab in the Parent Portal.

Word of the Week – Inconsequential and Inquisitive (Ongoing Posting)

In an effort to continuously expand the vocabulary of our students, we present two new words to the entire building on an every other week basis.  On the opposite weeks, we have a building-wide focus on pronoun usage.  On vocabulary weeks, students are exposed to these new words through teacher Canvas pages, our morning announcements, and through the lessons presented by teachers in all curricular areas.  We have been doing this for a few years now and have seen excellent measurable growth in our vocabulary scores.  Last year, we shared these words with families through this newsletter and received good feedback from students about using the words both at home and at school.  We appreciate any support you can provide by making use of these words around your children in your daily lives.  The current vocabulary words are inconsequential and inquisitive.  Thank you for your partnership!
