I’d just like to take a moment and wish all of our wildcat families a wonderful holiday season and a healthy and prosperous 2019. It has been a phenomenal school year thus far and we certainly could not say that without the amazingly collaborative relationship we have with all of you. Thank you for sending us students who are ready and eager to learn each day and for supporting the goals our teachers set for your children. We look forward to a strong finish to the first semester in January and a productive second half of the school year.
STAR Testing (Only Posting)
Wood Oaks students will participate in STAR testing in reading and mathematics on the Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, when we return from Winter Break, January 9 and 10. These tests are taken right on the students’ Chromebooks and will be administered during the normally scheduled reading and math classes. The majority of students are able to finish this testing in one class period. The STAR test is administered three times each year and provides teachers with valuable insight into student growth over the year.
Hot Lunch Makeup Day (Only Posting)
Just a friendly reminder that on Monday, January 7, the hot lunch served will be the lunches that were ordered from Josh’s on the snow day we had on November 26.
Winter Break (Second Posting)
All District 27 schools will be closed from Monday, December 24 through Friday, January 4 for winter break. Schools will reopen under normal school hours on Monday, January 7, 2019.
2019-2020 School Calendar (Second Posting)
On Thursday, December 6, the District 27 Board of Education approved the school calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. That calendar can be viewed by clicking here.
Word of the Week – Uncanny and Futile (Ongoing Posting)
In an effort to continuously expand the vocabulary of our students, we present two new words to the entire building on an every other week basis. On the opposite weeks, we have a building-wide focus on pronoun usage. On vocabulary weeks, students are exposed to these new words through teacher Canvas pages, our morning announcements, and through the lessons presented by teachers in all curricular areas. We have been doing this for a few years now and have seen excellent measurable growth in our vocabulary scores. Last year, we shared these words with families through this newsletter and received good feedback from students about using the words both at home and at school. We appreciate any support you can provide by making use of these words around your children in your daily lives. The current vocabulary words are uncanny and futile. Thank you for your partnership!
