Illinois 5Essentials Survey (Only Posting)
On Friday, December 21, all Wood Oaks students will participate in the State of Illinois 5Essentials Survey during an extended first period. This survey is based on 20 years of research at the University of Chicago. It asks students about their experiences in school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.
Student participants will log-in using their student ID and birth date in order to complete the survey. Students’ identities will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions and will only receive aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn the course material.
Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions asked of your student(s). Survey questions can be found by clicking here. If you DO NOT want your daughter or son to participate, please fill out the information on this form and have your child return it to the Wood Oaks Main Office before December 20.
Hot Lunch Ordering (Final Posting)
Hot lunch ordering for the second semester opens on December 1. Please be sure to make any adjustments that need to be made to your child’s lunch schedule in that system. Second semester begins on January 22, 2019. Most students do not have the same lunch periods in second semester that they did during first semester. You can see which periods your student has lunch each day in the second semester by clicking the “schedule” tab in the Parent Portal.
Word of the Week – Competent and Muster (Ongoing Posting)
In an effort to continuously expand the vocabulary of our students, we present two new words to the entire building on an every other week basis. On the opposite weeks, we have a building-wide focus on pronoun usage. On vocabulary weeks, students are exposed to these new words through teacher Canvas pages, our morning announcements, and through the lessons presented by teachers in all curricular areas. We have been doing this for a few years now and have seen excellent measurable growth in our vocabulary scores. Last year, we shared these words with families through this newsletter and received good feedback from students about using the words both at home and at school. We appreciate any support you can provide by making use of these words around your children in your daily lives. The current vocabulary words are competent and muster. Thank you for your partnership!
