Principal's Newsletter

Welcome to the Wood Oaks Newsletter.  This is my primary means of disseminating information to families, so please check back often.  I generally update this page once a week, usually on Fridays, but will occasionally put out a mid-week issue if there is information to share that cannot wait for the weekend.  To subscribe to this newsletter, click on the orange bell below, click on the newsletter, and fill out the pop-up form.

End of Quarter (First Posting)

Friday, January 18 marks the end of the first semester and the second quarter.  When students return to school on Monday, January 21, they will be switching to their third quarter Unified Arts rotation (art, music, technology, health, or public speaking) and all study hall and STEAM electives will be switching as well.  Because of those electives changing, many students will have advisory on a different day/period, too.  Please have your student print out their new schedule prior to coming to school on Monday, January 21.  Second quarter report cards will be available for viewing on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal after 3:30 pm on Tuesday, January 29.

District 27 Schools Closed (First Posting)

All District 27 Schools will be closed on Monday, January 21 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Schools will reopen under normal hours on Tuesday, January 22.

Word of the Week – Uncanny and Futile (Ongoing Posting)

In an effort to continuously expand the vocabulary of our students, we present two new words to the entire building on an every other week basis.  On the opposite weeks, we have a building-wide focus on pronoun usage.  On vocabulary weeks, students are exposed to these new words through teacher Canvas pages, our morning announcements, and through the lessons presented by teachers in all curricular areas.  We have been doing this for a few years now and have seen excellent measurable growth in our vocabulary scores.  Last year, we shared these words with families through this newsletter and received good feedback from students about using the words both at home and at school.  We appreciate any support you can provide by making use of these words around your children in your daily lives.  The current vocabulary words are uncanny and futile.  Thank you for your partnership!
