Peer Group

Peer Group

Where: Wood Oaks, Room 120

Mission Statement

We believe it is our mission as peer group leaders to create a positive, comfortable, and supportive environment for all students.  The Peer Group program is divided into two parts: peer tutoring and peer mentoring.  By being positive role models and friends as well as by giving students options to solve their own problems, we hope to help create unity within the entire Wood Oaks community.

*The mission statement was written and created by 8th grade peer group leaders.*

What is a mentor?

Mentoring is an intentional pairing of individuals with the goal of providing the inexperienced person with an experienced partner to guide and nurture his or her transition into Wood Oaks Jr. High School.  One of the goals of mentors is to help their mentees feel comfortable and confident in their new surroundings.

Mentoring Goals:

  • Assist with the transition for sixth graders, students with special needs, and the new students
  • Promote self-esteem
  • Offer social interactions with mentors and peers
  • Develop motivational and problem-solving skills
  • Assist with questions, problems, and concerns
  • Have fun!
